WORMSIGN...
Dune 2 : Wormsign is a recreation from scratch of the old Westwood RTS game, Dune 2 : The Building of a Dynasty
(or
Battle for Arrakis, for the European release). Relying heavily on SDL, the project itself started as an
experiment on how far I could go with the Simple Direct-Media library. I ended up creating some of the basic
routines
needed for a RTS, and started to think about making one. I've been a Dune 2/Super Dune 2 fan
for a long time now, so I decided to use this opportunity to pay an homage to the pioneer of all RTS games.
This project, in its final version (post release candidate), should feature :
- 800x600 resolution, smoothed gfx.
- MIDI music and Dosbox-emulated original Sound blaster music.
- multi-language support (all Latin-character languages as of now).
- original single player campaign as Atreides, Ordos and Harkonnen.
- multiplayer and skirmish mode (LAN/WAN) featuring the original Houses plus 3 Minor houses :
Mercenaries, Fremen and Sardaukar from Super Dune 2.
- map editor integrated in the Launcher program, as well as customization tools.
- modern RTS game mechanics, such as patrolling and a new AI.
